There are many CNA programs available from today's nursing schools.

First off, you can choose to take CNA programs online and complete your nursing studies from your own home. You will still be required to take a practical portion of the program from a nursing placement, but the book learning portion of the study is available from many online resources.

If you choose to attend classes the traditional way, you will find that CNA nursing programs vary in length. They can be anywhere from a few months long to 6 months or a year. It all depends on the CNA programs you choose. Each institution handles the nursing program differently. They all delve into various amounts of detail for each portion of the lessons.

Choosing the right CNA program for you will depend on a few different factors:

Location

Is the CNA nursing school local? If you are not willing to move to attend a particular school, then you will need to narrow your search for a CNA program down to only those within a close driving distance. Keep in mind that the course is not very long so it may not be a big deal for you to travel an hour or so at a time to get to the school. If the school's reputation outweighs the traveling distance, then you may decide to enroll there anyway.

Cost

Compare tuition costs for several CNA nursing programs from several different schools. Are some more preferable than others? Is one much more expensive than others? Find out what makes their program more expensive. Figure out your budget and what you can afford to spend on tuition.

CNA Nursing Program Length

The amount of detail the course of study goes into will usually dictate the length of time the CNA program is. Find out the ration of in class study to clinical practice. Is the overall program length suitable to your requirements? If you are a mature student returning to school, can you afford to be off work for the entire length of the nursing school program?

Course of Study

Find out how many hours of clinical practice you will be required to put in. As well, get a run-down of the course of study. Is there more emphasis put on one are over others? For example, does the CNA program focus more on cardiac patient care than others? Is this an area you are interested in? Find out about all the CNA nursing programs and study them to decide which is best for your needs.

Job Placement

Some CNA programs will assist you in finding not only clinical practice placement, but also permanent employment in the industry. If this is offered, it is indeed a plus. It shows that the school has a good reputation and that their graduates are sought after for employment.

Reputation

Have you heard about this school before? Do they have a good reputation from their alumni students and teachers? What about how medical personnel currently employed in the medical field? What do they know of the school and the CNA nursing program?

If you've narrowed down your search for a CNA program to a few different institutions, then begin to further narrow the options down by taking into consideration the following:

Tour

Visit the school and request a tour of the classrooms and other facilities. Take careful notes about what is offered. Take photos if you can. Interview a few of the teachers if you can. Get an overall feel for the school and go with your gut feelings.

References

Ask for references from the school. It is helpful to talk to other students who have taken the CNA nursing program at the school and see what they think. Did they find a job in their field? Were they well-prepared for the job? Also, talk to local hospitals and other medical organizations to find out the reputation of the school you are considering. Is there another school that they hire from more readily than the one you are considering?

Considering all of the above criteria when selecting CNA programs will help you in your search. It will help you get organized and hopefully lead you to discover a program that is best suited to your needs.
